COMMON QUESTIONS

Is there a fee to enter the pageant?

Yes, there is a fee, which covers your participation in the pageant, and all pageant activities. If selected as a contestant, we will give you information on obtaining sponsors to help defray your costs.

What is a sponsor and how does sponsorship work?

A sponsor is an individual or business who gives you money or provides a service to enable you to participate in the pageant. Start with a list of potential sponsors such as friends, family members, and their employers, etc. This will take time and commitment. Schedule appointments to collect your sponsorships. When approaching potential sponsors, explain your goals and your desire to improve yourself by participating in the pageant. This will also be beneficial in developing your communication skills.

Do I have to spend a lot of money on my wardrobe or purchase it from pageant sponsors?

No. It is not necessary to spend a fortune on an interview outfit, swimsuit, or evening gown. It is more important to select outfits that make you feel confident, that best suit your body type and personality. Each year the personal choices of gowns span from simple without beads to hand beaded. It is never the gown the judges are scoring; it’s the young woman wearing it. You might consider securing a gown shop, hair and nail salon, etc.as a sponsor. Resource information will be provided to contestants.

Do I need a “pageant coach” and whom would you recommend?

While some contestants feel more prepared when they work with an experienced person who can give them tips on competition, many young women have won titles without any outside training. We do not give recommendations on specific coaches.

What if I have a tattoo or body piercing?

We feel that tattoos and piercings are statements of your individuality. We have not prohibited anyone from entering the pageant because of them. Should you feel that your tattoo might be distracting, you may want to make sure it is covered by your swimwear, gown or even body makeup. You will be responsible for anybody makeup needed to cover a tattoo. If you are uncomfortable with your navel piercing, you may want to make sure your wardrobe covers it, remove it totally, or replace it with something smaller for pageant competition.

Can I have a personal hair/make-up artist backstage?

Contestants are permitted to have a personal hair/make-up artist during the pageant weekend. We will have designated areas for the stylists to provide their services before the preliminary competition, the interview on Saturday evening and the final competition on Sunday. The fee to use your personal hair/make-up artist is $250, which covers the artist's workstation, chair, and electrical outlets. The $250 does not cover the hair/make-up artist's services. You are responsible for booking and paying your artist personally.

When will contestant photos be on the website?

Contestant photos will be posted on the website one week prior to the pageant.

Should I bring a gift for the other contestants?

No.

If I win, how much time will be required?

The time involved varies. We make every effort to obtain appearances but realize that your education and family are a high priority. Again, this is on an individual basis and requires much coordination, communication, and cooperation between the titleholder and pageant office. Appearances will be on a local and statewide basis and may include parades, speaking engagements, and trade shows. Almost all appearances and charity work will take place during the weekend and will be scheduled in advance.

How much time will the pageant require?

The pageant is 1.25 days and that is all that is required.

Can I find out if a “specific” person is in the pageant?

All contestant information is confidential. Contestant names are not disclosed prior to the contestant photos being posted on our website.

How many contestants are in the pageant?

The number of contestants will change daily as contestants apply to the pageant. We do not know how many contestants will be in the pageant until the final deadlines have been met.

Will the photo I send with my application be used in the pageant program?

Only if you do not submit another photo before the program photo deadline.

Is there a talent portion of the competition?

No, there is no performing talent competition.

How are the Judges selected?

We are hard at work all year searching for outstanding individuals to serve on our judging panel. Our judges will come from a diverse range of occupations. In the past, judges have been professional athletes, actors, models, casting agents, modeling agents, politicians, journalists, professors, former titleholders, pageant directors, doctors, lawyers, entertainers, business professionals, entrepreneurs, image consultants, counselors, fashion designers, beauty consultants, hair and make-up professionals, and fitness trainers. We go to great lengths to ensure the fairness and objectivity of the judging panel. Judges are required to sign documentation verifying that their decisions will be made in a fair and impartial manner.

How is the pageant judged?

Each contestant will be judged in three equally weighted areas of competition: Interview, Swimsuit, and Evening Gown. Judging criteria includes poise, beauty, confidence, character, and personality.

Am I too young / too old?

As long as you meet the age requirements, you are not too young or too old. We do not provide the judges with your age. Many young ladies have won their state pageants at either end of the age spectrum. What matters is that you present the most confident and prepared YOU!

I am short... Do you have to be tall to win?

Absolutely not! Whether you are 4 feet tall or 6 feet tall ...it doesn’t matter. Each year there is a wide range of body types. We are looking for outgoing, intelligent, confident, attractive young women who are excited to be a part of our pageant system.
